emergency response
In a hurry, John phoned an ambulance, and they took her to the hospital right away. “We urgently need assistance!” His voice wavered as he spoke to the operator. Paramedics came in a matter of minutes and promptly evaluated Emily’s condition. As they took her out on a stretcher, Max let out a wild bark. With a pallid face, John pleaded, “Hang in there, honey.” Max attempted to follow, but John stopped him. John and Max stood defenseless on the driveway as the ambulance drove off, sirens blazing.

hospital tests
Emily was detained overnight for monitoring even though the results of her initial tests at the hospital were normal. “At this time, we are unable to identify any issues,” the physician told John. “But we’ll keep a close eye on her.” John nodded, feeling both relieved and irritated. Max was still agitated, staring out the window toward the hospital. John held Emily’s hand while they sat together in the stillness of the night. “We’ll overcome this,” he muttered.
