Emma feigned illness the following day in order to avoid attending school. She was informed by her parents that she did not appear well and that it would be prudent to visit a doctor. Emma informed her mother that Sadie would already be coming to get her up when she volunteered to take her.

Fortunately, Emma’s parents didn’t find this strange because the two girls were so close. Emma was left alone at home as they said their daughter farewell with a kiss and left for work. Her mind was swimming with ideas and questions while she waited for Sadie to come get her, but the one that most alarmed her was, “What am I going to do with this baby? ”
