She made an appointment by calling her doctor, who she had seen for her initial prenatal checkup. Despite her extreme nervousness, she knew that this was the appropriate course of action. She owed it to tiny Rose and herself, and to all the other girls who had ever experienced such a terrible predicament.

Her hands were shaking when she entered the doctor’s office a few days later. It felt a little strange because it was the first time since giving birth that she wasn’t in Rose’s room. Fortunately, her parents had little trouble keeping an eye on her during her stay. They even urged her to leave.
