Sarah froze, her breath catching. Had she heard him right? Her eyes darted around the room, desperate for confirmation, but everyone avoided her gaze. Everyone except James’s mother. She alone met Sarah’s eyes, her face etched with quiet sorrow. Stepping forward, she gently clasped Sarah’s hands, her touch warm but firm. “Sarah,” she began, her voice soft yet unwavering, “I need you to listen carefully to what I’m about to say.”
