It seemed like a kick to the belly when she stated, “These papers look like plans to challenge an inheritance trust.” I felt a mixture of incredulity and rage in my gut. Since I needed to have my wits about me, I hid my feelings and thanked her for being honest. This was only the start.

I thanked Ms. Carson for her assistance, remaining composed despite my anger, and assured her that I would keep her informed if I needed anything else. She gave me a comforting grin as I was leaving, one that in some way strengthened my determination. If I wanted to win this war, I needed to maintain my composure. I inhaled deeply as I stepped outside her office, feeling both ready to confront Tom and reenergized.
