Lioness Relents
In a stunning turn of events, the lioness appeared to welcome Jake. Her snarl grew softer as the resentment gradually faded. I scarcely dared to believe my eyes as I whispered, “Look, she’s letting him in!” We watched Jake intently, hoping he would succeed. The lioness took a tentative step back, allowing him some room. Almost as if a secret agreement had been made, there was something unreal about the situation. He might actually be able to assist her.

Our nimble driver, Sarah, grabbed for the radio. Although Jake appeared to be in charge, the appearance of a second lion offered unforeseen danger. “We need backup—fast,” she said fiercely, her eyes fixed on the scenario as it was developing. With a tone of worry, someone asked, “Do you think they’ll arrive in time?” We were somewhat relieved by Sarah’s nod. Jake’s confidence and the support system gave us faith that we would survive this incredible safari.
