The hum of the plane was now overshadowed by the heavy silence of shared tension among the passengers. The delay hung in the air, stretching uncomfortably into everyone’s plans. “Do you think we’ll take off soon?” a woman across the aisle asked her seatmate, her voice tinged with worry. “I hope so,” he answered with a faint sigh. Passengers stole glances at their watches, a few letting out audible sighs of frustration. Meanwhile, Brenda sat resolutely, oblivious to the disruption she was causing. While the rest waited anxiously, she remained lost in her own little world, unaware of the schedules unraveling around her.

Jacob gazed up at me with wide, trusting eyes. “Will we get to sit soon, Mom?” he asked softly, his faith in me unshaken. The innocence in his voice tugged at my heart. “Yes, sweetheart, very soon,” I replied, gently tucking a strand of hair away from his forehead. His small, quiet nod filled me with resolve.
