Each year, people go missing. Many of these people never resurface, but the saddest part is that others disappear without anyone realizing it. This is not the case for the rich and the famous. Our society is already obsessed with celebrities, so these missing-person cases are even more fascinating to the general public. On top of that, it feels like everyone wants to try cracking the case. It is only natural for people to speculate about the disappearances of famous people. Did they die? Did they start a new life somewhere else? Who knows. Let us just say that everyone has a lot of questions about the following stories.

These Missing Celebrity Disappearances Have Never Been Explained

No One Has Any Answers About The Mysterious Disappearances Of These Celebrities

Theodosia Burr Alston

Are you a Hamilton fan? If so, you might remember that duet shared by Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. It is called “Dear Theodosia” and is a lullaby dedicated to their newborn kids. In the musical, we later see Philip die in a duel. However, a lot of people had no idea that Theodosia, the daughter of Burr, suffered a terrible fate. Hamilton spread rumors that the father and daughter were in an incestuous relationship together. She then tried to help her father with his attempts to secede and later fled the country while he was on trial for treason. When her son passed away, she got on a small boat at Georgetown. No one knew what happened to her after this. There are stories that she joined a crew of pirates, while others believe that she married a Native American. Most likely, she died at sea.

Richey Edwards

Manic Street Preachers would not be the same without Richey Edwards, who served as the lyricist, guitarist, and musician of the punk bad. He shocked everyone with his stunts. For example, he was once asked about the authenticity of his persona. To prove that it was not just a front, he carved “4 REAL” on his arm with a razor blade. In 1995, he disappeared all of a sudden. It was assumed to be just another publicity stunt for the longest time. When he did not return, everyone assumed that he had died. His family said that taking his own life was “never an option for him.” Others do not agree with that assessment. After all, they found his abandoned car not far from a bridge famous for suicides.

Harold Holt

In the Land Down Under, the 17th Australian prime minister disappeared in December 1967. He went for a swim on a deserted beach one day. People said that the surf had been very rough on that day, so there is a good chance that he drowned. No one has ever found his body. It sounds like the natural conclusion to the mystery, but the public had different theories to explain it. There was a theory saying that the CIA killed him for wanting to pull out of Vietnam. Another one said that he was a spy for China who pretended to die so that he could return there. The most ironic thing is that there is a swimming center named after him.

Connie Converse

During the ‘50s, Connie Converse worked as a musician, albeit not a very successful one. It is amazing that she has since become known as the first singer-songwriter in the world. She was tired of her lack of success and left the industry in 1961. After leading a quiet life for years, it looks like she decided to take matters into her own hands in 1974. She got into the car after telling friends that she was embarking on a new life and vanished. No one has ever heard of her after that. We do not know whether she took her own life or moved somewhere else. We just hope that she lived to hear about the fame she deserved.

Jim Sullivan

People were surprised when Jim Sullivan disappeared in the ‘60s and ‘70s. After all, the folk-rocker was just about to make it big when he stopped showing up. The talented man had good connections and recently got a gig in Nashville that would have propelled him to fame if he did not go missing. They found his car abandoned outside of Santa Rosa, New Mexico. His belongings were discovered in a motel near the site, but they did not ever find Sullivan himself. Others thought that he decided to leave his life behind, but his loved ones are not convinced as he did not take his guitar with him.

Barbara Newhall Follett

At the height of the Jazz Age, Barbara Newhall Follett impressed everyone with her writing. She was only 13 years old, barely a teenager, when she wrote a great novel. They all wanted to see what she would do next, but she was unable to pursue it due to her father. When he ran off with a different woman, he left the family penniless. This is why she worked as a typist when she was 16 years old. She did not get to write again. Ten years later, she got into a fight with her husband, left the house, and went missing. He did not put a lot of effort into looking for her. Can you believe that the cops just got wind of it in 1966? We can’t help but wonder if she decided to start a new life because she was unhappy.

Fan Bingbing

If you ask people to name a Chinese actress, many will respond with the name Fan Bingbing. She received global success thanks to her performance in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Things changed for her when the government found out that she was involved in tax evasion. She disappeared from the public eye on July 1, 2018. The Chinese government tends to “disappear” famous people for crimes like this one. Ai Weiwei went missing for a few months once. On social media, the actress issued an apology for it. She has since resurfaced and started working again, but no one is sure what happened.

Rico Harris

Not that long ago, Rico Harris ruled the basketball scene as a player for the Harlem Globetrotters. Sadly, it all started to go downhill for him when his alcohol abuse problem started to get out of hand. He even fired from his security guard position in Los Angeles when he showed up to work drunk. He packed his things to go to his girlfriend’s home in Seattle. Sadly, he did not make it. They found his car, together with all of his things, outside Sacramento. People reported seeing a tall guy on the side of the highway and even found human footprints that matched his size. They ended abruptly, so people assumed that a hitchhiker picked him up. To this day, no one knows what happened to him. We hope that he is okay.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Most people know Antoine de Saint-Exupery for writing “Le Petit Prince.” After all, it is one of the best-known children’s books in the world. It is fascinating to hear that he was also an aviator with a penchant for death-defying stunts. He even joined the military to serve his country during the Second World War even though he was older than most soldiers. The other pilots did not approve of him because of his age, as well as his tendency to make mistakes in the air. The worst one he made happened on July 31st, 1944. The author crashed the plane while it was taking off for the Mediterranean. It was only in 2000 that they recovered the wreckage. Despite this, they did not find his body.

Jim Thompson

If it were not for Jim Thompson, Thai silk would not be the global commodity that it is now. He used to be an OSS agent. In case you did not know, that was the predecessor of the CIA! When he relocated to Asia, he launched one of the greatest business ventures in the world. By 1967, he was a rich socialite. That same year, he went to Malaysia for a biking trip and did not return. There are many theories about his fate. Others thought that his business rivals in Bangkok killed him, while others think that he was murdered by the Thai government, the CIA, or an anti-CIA faction. Everyone agrees that he did not die in the woods since he went through survival training in the past. Something fishy must have taken place.

John Bingham, 17th Earl of Lucan

There was a time when Lord Lucan was being considered to play James Bond. In 1974, he wound up in a custody battle for his three kids. Things got so out of hand when he started to spy on them and record their phone conversations. It came to a boil when he tried to bludgeon his wife in a dim room. The room was so dark that he could not tell for sure if his target was actually her. Instead of his wife, he killed the nanny of the children! After murdering Sandra Rivett, he disappeared and has never resurfaced. Others think that he went to Africa and died there, while others believe that he took his own life by jumping into a river. There is also a theory that his friends fed him to tigers. At any rate, no one has seen him ever again.

Amelia Earhart

The story of Amelia Earhart is a famous one. She is even considered one of the best aviators in history. In 1937, she disappeared in the middle of her attempt to circumnavigate the world via plane. There is more to this story. Most people do not know that the plane did not just vanish into thin air. For days, naval ships received radio transmissions from the aviator for days after she landed on a tiny island in the Pacific. She did not have enough fuel to go on. A few days after the signals stopped, the U.S. Navy deployed aircraft to fly over the area. They wrote off the transmissions as hoaxes since they did not see people or planes from up above. No one went to the island then. These days, a dig on the island recovered artifacts from those days. It is now believed that she actually survived for months. They did not find her body, but that might have to do with the coconut crabs. These creatures eat entire animals!

Glenn Miller

When the United States entered the Second World War, Glenn Miller served in the Army even though he was much older than the draft age. As a musician, he joined the band and performed to improve the morale of the soldiers. It was pretty common during the war. In December 1944, he had been on the way to perform for troops in France when the plane went missing in the English Channel. For a long time, the most popular theory was that the plane was bombed by Allied forces by accident. New evidence points to the fact that the fuel intake froze over and caused the engine to stop working. The plane then plummeted into the sea.

Dorothy Arnold

There was no greater mystery shrouding Manhattan than the disappearance of Dorothy Arnold in 1910. She was a 25-year-old socialite who wanted to be a writer. One day, she told her mother that she would shop for a new dress and stepped out. However, she bumped into a friend and said that she planned to walk around Central Park. No one saw her again. She did not go to the lunch date that she set with her mom. The family did not want bad publicity and hired investigators instead of telling the police. Months later, the trail had already gone cold when they finally notified the authorities about it. People think that she took her own life after her manuscript was rejected, while others think that she died during an abortion. Her friends do not think that either was likely as she had been in a good mood before she went missing. While others assumed that her boyfriend killed her, he had been in Italy at the time.

Bison Dele

Brian Williams might have changed his name to Bison Dele after quitting the NBA, but he was already known for his eccentricity before that. When he retired, he went to Asia, fired bazookas in the desert, and became a nomad of sorts. In 2007, he purchased a boat called Hakuna Matata and planned to sail to Hawaii from Tahiti with his brother, his beau, and a captain. Sadly, they did not make it to Hawaii. Miles Dabord, his brother, was the only person who surfaced from the trip. After two months, he was arrested in Phoenix when he tried to buy gold with a check that belonged to his brother. It is not hard to figure out what happened. Sadly, this remains a cold case as Dabord died of insulin overdose while on bail.

Joe Pichler

You might have seen Joe Pichler in Varsity Blues and the Beethoven movies. The former child star could have made it even bigger, but he first took a break to graduate from high school. He got his braces off and planned to return to Los Angeles to pick up acting work again when he vanished. In 2006, he and a group of friends spent the night playing cards. They said that he looked like he was in a good mood. To their surprise, he called one of them at 4 o’clock in the morning. He was said to be “inconsolable” and promised to call again in an hour. This did not happen. They later found his car at an intersection close to a bridge. They also found a suicide note in his apartment in which he talked about wishing he had been a “stronger brother” and left all of his things to his little brother. They did not find his body, but it looks like he jumped to his date. His family claims that it must be foul play, however. According to his loved ones, he was not the sort of person who would commit suicide.

Jean Spangler

During the 1940s, Jean Spangler had been close to getting her big break when she disappeared. In 1949, she informed her sister-in-law that she would meet her ex and go to a taping that would go on the whole night. She did not come home. They later found her purse with ripped straps at the park. There was a note in there that said, “Can’t wait any longer. Going to see Dr. Scott. It will work best this way while mother is away.” It was made out to Kirk. Actor Kirk Douglas got in touch with the police to say that it was not him, but people found this suspicious. Who would do such a thing if he were really innocent? On top of that, they worked on a film together. Kirk is a pretty rare name as well. One of her friends later revealed that she was about to get an abortion, which was then illegal and done in an unsafe way. No one knows if something bad happened to her on the way or if she died during the process.

Sean Flynn

It was not easy for Sean Flynn to break out of the shadow of his famous Hollywood actor dad. He tried his hand at acting too, but he did not see much success. In the end, he was able to make a name for himself with photography. During the Vietnam War, he worked as a photojournalist and sent back photos that only spurred the anti-war sentiment. Sadly, it all came to an end for him on April 6th, 1970. He and a fellow journalist went to take photos at a Viet Cong checkpoint, but no one heard from them ever again after that. Unfortunately, it is not hard to guess what truly happened to the pair.

Michael Rockefeller

Not only did Nelson Rockefeller serve as the governor of New York, but he was also the vice-president of Gerald Ford. However, his son Michael disappeared under strange circumstances. He had been in New Guinea collecting artifacts when he disappeared. They found his boat twelve miles from the shore. There was not much evidence of foul play, so it was officially recorded as a drowning. In 2014, a man called Carl Hoffman released a book called “Savage Harvest: A Tale of Cannibals, Colonialism, and Michael Rockefeller’s Tragic Quest for Primitive Art.” It claims that Rockefeller went deep into the Asmat tribe and even immersed himself in the culture. Mind you, they perform ritualistic cannibalism. Witnesses have come forward and said that they killed and consumed the missing person like the rumors claimed. There is no concrete evidence of this, so the case continues to be “unsolved.”

Ylenia Maria Sole Carrisi

Born to a pair of Italian actors, Ylenia Maria Sole Carrisi went on to be known as the Italian version of Vanna White. In the early ‘90s, she turned the letters on the local answer to Wheel of Fortune. She set off to backpack in Central America but went missing not far from New Orleans in 1994. A security guard said that he spotted a person who matched her description. The said woman jumped into the Mississippi River after she shouted, “I belong in the water.” She swam around until she was struck by the undertow. No one knows if that was actually her. Two decades later, her mother still believes that her child is alive. She is even working with a detective to look for the missing person.

Daniel Lind Lagerlöf

In October 2011, Daniel Lind Lagerlöf had been scouting for a new film. It was Fjällbackamorden – Strandriddaren by Camilla Läckberg. The Swedish director had been in the Tjurpannan nature reserve close to the steep cliffs just outside Tanumshede, Bohuslän. The theory goes that he fell down and got swept off his feet and into the sea. There are a lot of slippery rocks there, so he might not have been able to stand up again. No one was around to witness this, but he is believed to be dead.

It released hit songs such as “Hot Girls in Love” and “Working for the Weekend.” These remain popular and even get played in different parts of the world even to this day. Scott Smith was one of its founding members. He remained with the band until he disappeared at sea under strange circumstances in 2000.

“Sweet Jimmy” Robinson

Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Robinson fought in Miami Beach on February 7th, 1961. Not everyone gets to spar it out with one of the best boxers in the world, so people were curious to learn more about Sweet Jimmy. They did not find much about him, if at all. After all, they did not find his full name, family, date of birth, and any public information. As a matter of fact, it felt like he did not exist based on the records.

Oscar Zeta Acosta

If you watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, you must already know that Benicio del Toro was cast to bring Oscar Zeta Acosta to life. He was based on a real Mexican-American activist-lawyer who had a wild lifestyle. In the cult-classic movie, Acosta vanished. This was also the case in real life. Acosta went missing in 1974. At the time, he had been making his way through Mexico at the age of 39. No one knows what became of him.
