My boss turned to face my dad and anxiously fixed his tie. He started to explain why sacking me was a “business decision” while attempting to seem assured. “You see, it wasn’t personal,” he began, stumbling over his words. Just for the team’s sake, I guess. He spoke haltingly, and his face showed his nervousness. Instead of interrupting, my dad sat there and practically urged him to keep spinning his web.

The mess he found himself in was symbolized by this location.
