Plants are a magical and exciting decor item for both inside and outside your home. You may not be so excited now but once you get into it, learn about them and start shopping for them you will realize how happy they actually make you. Plants add to your landscape, yes, as well as your decor aesthetic. However, we forget the benefits that come along with certain plants whether it be from being able to use them in various ways or how some plants clean and refresh the air you breathe! Here are some fabulous plants you should consider for your home or office:
Geranium
Geraniums are a wonderful dual plant, they can be kept inside or outside and have a bunch of different uses. You can use their leaves to flavor jellies, iced drinks, pastries, pound cakes, and even use the leaves to create a scent. They manage to withstand through dry and drought-like weather as long as placed in well-draining soil, they can also be potted or planted freely. However, it is important to note that the colorful flower may stop blooming in very high weather but will soon bloom when the weather cools.
Boxwood
An extremely versatile plant that can be formal or casual. Boxwood is easy to shape and has a strong green color, beautiful and simple in nature. They can be used as hedges, low hedgers, edgers, for topiary, or planted in a pot. There are a variety of types in which each is suitable for something different. They adapt to different soil types but they do not like long-standing water so drainage is very important. Boxwoods love sunlight and thrive when exposed to sunlight or light shade but do not enjoy the wind and often cannot withstand it.
Calla Lily
Calla lilies are gorgeous and add subtle color to any environment. The only important aspects when it comes to successfully growing calla lilies are location and adequate planting. Calla Lillies need loose, well-drained soil and need to be placed in full sun or in warmer climates partially shady spots. Another dual and minimal caring plant that adds a touch of color and elegance.
Herbs
Sage, basil, rosemary, thyme, mint and more. Herbs can be grown anywhere and everywhere, with proper attention, watering, and some sunlight you can have an indoor or outdoor herb garden! The best part is some of these herbs actually repel insects and naturally can be used in your everyday cooking.
Begonias
Begonias are very popular houseplants and some are grown for the floral aspect or for the striking foliage. Fibrous and rhizomatous begonias are the best for being planted as houseplants as they do not require as much humidity and light as the other species of begonias. Tuberous begonias are thus, best for outdoors. A great tip is to set your begonias on a shallow tray that is filled with pebbles and water during the winter, this will increase humidity indoors and does not allow for water to back up.
