Home hunting? Apartment searching? Dumpster diving… wait, what? Let’s get back on track here. Have you ever heard of “anything homes”? Well if you haven’t, then today is the day you will. The concept of creating non-traditional living spaces is becoming more and more of a fad nowadays. But sometimes it’s not just about what the house is made of, but about where it is too. Here are 3 examples of some real estate ventures that surprised even the brassiest architects and designers in the industry. Let’s take a look at some “anything homes”.
First Class Casa
Let’s face it, catching some shut-eye on a flight is hardly an easy task. And even if you do manage to drift into dreamland, you’re apt to wake up with a crick in your neck worse than the time you watched your senior college professor attempting to stream a slideshow from his laptop to the classroom’s projector. But there is one man who’d be glad to differ with you. Retired engineer, Bruce Campbell, converted an old Boeing 727 into his very own home which sits in the middle of a forest. According to the Oregon local, even after buying the aircraft for $100,000 and putting down double as much for repairs and maintenance, he sleeps pretty darn well! So what’s next for the 65-year-old maverick? Apparently he has his eyes set on a Boeing 747. Some people just have to go big or go home.
Floating Home
Mmmm! The wonderful thought of living on an island with the one you love. Bliss. Well, for a retired Nova Scotia couple, their dream drifted into reality when they built their own floating home! They’ve been living in seclusion on a lake for more than 20 years! How do they eat? Fishing (from their own living room) is one way, but they also cultivate their own vegetables and herbs in their very own greenhouse. Since the two are artists, they create and sell their work so that they can buy certain products when they visit the mainland. What do these two consider to be golden treasure? Chocolate!
Window World
You know what they say about living in a glass home, don’t you? But this couple looked past the clichés and went on to build a home whose walls are made completely from windows! Can you imagine how many sun rays press up against the windows of this innovative living space? Probably just as many as the face and hand smudges left by the kids on the block. In truth, nosy neighbors are hardly a worry for these two seeing as their glass cabin is tucked neatly into the mountainous landscape of West Virginia. Want to visit? Maybe call first.
Anything Homes
While we’re comfortable in our own homes and apartment buildings, perhaps we should start looking at alternative means of living. Sure, we don’t all have to transfer our lives to the cockpit of a commercial jet or to the frozen lakes of Canada, but we sure can take a look at a different way of living. “Anything homes” might just be that way.
